HISTORY BOOK REVIEW ASSIGNMENT INTRO:
During the spring 2020 semester, you have traced the human experience in early world civilization from Mesopotamia to the Ancient European empires of Greece and Rome. Along the way, you have learned about the existence of pharaohs, philosophers, high priests, artisans, craftsmen, slaves, peddlers, emperors, kings, peasants, teachers, conquerors, and inventors. Each of these historical actors contributed to the complexity of the early development of world civilization that resulted in some actors receiving considerable fame and fortune while reducing others to sub-human working and living conditions in a variety of human settlements around the globe between 5,000 B.C.E. and 600 C.E.
Your assignment requires you to read and critically evaluate Historian George G.M. James’ classic scholarly publication entitled “Stolen Legacy: Greek Philosophy is Stolen Egyptian Philosophy.†Specifically, you are to write a scholarly book review evaluating the content and merit of James’ classic academic paper concerning Ancient Africa’s contributions to world civilization. Does it add value to your understanding of Ancient African civilization and its influence on other people and culture in other parts of the world? If so, explain how? What are the shortcomings of this classic work?
