Labor Management DISPUTE
Please remember this is about a LABOR MANAGEMENT DISPUTE. Each term at least one student writes about a labor research issue. You cannot adequately answer the questions for this assignment without addressing a labor management dispute.
Directions: 4 pages, not including Title or References pages
Locate an article describing a collective bargaining dispute that has arisen within the past two years. This article should be from a newspaper, an academic journal, or a credible online news source. Use a minimum of two additional references (within the past 4 years) to support your discussion and to respond to the questions in the assignment.
A. State the title of your paper and identify your main article.
•Using APA guidelines state the proper citation for the article.
B. Respond to these questions:
What are the underlying causes of the dispute?
What economic or ethical pressures has each side attempted to use to prevail in the dispute? Be Specific!
If there is any evidence of any illegal or unethical conduct on either side, describe it in detail. If you did not find legal or ethical issues state this and why you think this was the case.
Was the dispute resolved? If so, how? Be specific!
What, if any, role was played by third parties in resolving this bargaining dispute? What was the identity of the third party and how did impact the dispute?
In retrospect, could this dispute have been resolved in a more constructive fashion? If so, how? Provide your concluding remarks regarding this case.
SET UP: Double Space, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, black type. You may insert pictures, graphics etc. However, your written content must still be a minimum of three – four pages. I have heard the student argument that “a picture is worth a thousand words” and equivalent to a page of text. I enjoy pictures, graphics etc., but they are not a substitute for your written content.
CLARITY: Consider using headings and/or subheadings within your paper where appropriate. This often assures that you respond to all seven questions. For example, you might have a title for your paper and use a subheading for each question. This is not required, but often adds to clarity.
There are seven (7) questions that require your response. As a part of the last question, please include your very brief concluding or summary remarks. You don’t want to leave your reader hanging in the air guessing your conclusion. I am interested in your analysis that demonstrates your understanding.
TITLE PAGE AND REFERENCE PAGE: Follow APA style guidelines. The Title Page must be centered and include the course number, course name, university name, your name, paper title, and the due date. They are also in the same type and size font as your paper. Many, many students design the Title Page with 36pt size. This is not correct.
REFERENCES: Must be a scholarly source or a reliable online source. Wikipedia, online dictionaries or obscure newspapers are not scholarly references. You certainly may use them to make a specific point of interest, but they will not count toward your required three references. Every reference listed at the end of the paper must be cited/ referenced in the paper.
CITATIONS AND QUOTATIONS: The most common error in papers involves quotations without a page number. Students most often type the name of the author and the year. All quotes must have a page number unless there are no page numbers in the source. If this is the case follow the directions in the link below.
