Topic: Analyze a document from David Geggus’ The Haitian Revolution. A Documentary History. In your paper introduce and explain a document that shows the viewpoint of slaves, or a single slave, or a formerly enslaved person in San Domingue before or during the revolution. Present a clear argument explaining how this document reflects their thinking.
Background: Students spend a lot of time learning about slavery, usually U.S. slavery, and not a lot about slavery in the rest of the hemisphere. Further, we think we know a lot about slavery and what that experience was like, but the truth is our knowledge is often pretty thin. This exercise is intended to learn a little bit more about slavery by considering how difficult it is to get the perspective of enslaved people – even from documents written at the time.
Double-space all papers. Citation – make frequent reference to the documents. When you do so identify them by author and title (as given by Geggus in the book). If you quote from a document provide a brief parenthetical citation at the end of the sentence, simply include the page number and document number – for example (#63, p. 143).
down below I have attached the document I want you to use.
